San Juan College Enhances Its Facilities, Technology and Learning Space with GO Bond Funding

Thanks to funding from State GO Bonds, San Juan College has continued to enhance its facilities, technology, and learning spaces. In 2016, the College received $2 million for restroom renovations campus-wide, involving 11 sets of restrooms including ADA enhancements. The approval of the 2018 State GO Bond provided $520,000 to demolish a 30-year-old fire tower, allowing for future expansion, and repair the 34-year-old roof of the Information Technology Center. In 2020, the College received $3.5 million in GO Bond funding, paving the way to a safer campus with easier and ADA-compliant access to campus entry and roadway, repaving aging parking lots, upgrading uneven gravel parking lots to asphalt, installing energy-efficient roadway lighting, and enhancing signage. In 2022, GO Bond funding was used to update and modernize the current IT infrastructure. Projects currently in progress include campus-wide fiber replacement, interior network cabling, and installing a network fiber loop to ensure dependability.

University of New Mexico Physics, Astronomy and Interdisciplinary Sciences (PAÍS)

In 2020, with the help of GO bond funding, the University of New Mexico (UNM) launched the Interdisciplinary Science Cooperative (Co-op) within the brand-new Physics, Astronomy and Interdisciplinary Sciences (PAÍS) building with the goal of increasing collaborative research opportunities across campus. Since 2020, the Co-op has hosted an Annual Team Research Symposium dedicated to bringing faculty, students and external partners together to promote more productive research teams. The inaugural Team Ream Research Symposium in 2020 drew nearly 200 individuals from across campus and across the world. With 20 sessions spread across three days, participants were given opportunities to share best practices, learn about each other's work and make new connections through our virtual platform. Students and faculty were also given the opportunity to compete for prize money in team research concept competitions.
